The Photographic Portrait at Parsons The New School Continuing Education (Spring 2016)
Developing the concept of the portrait from earliest artistic impulses: from drawing, to painting, arriving at the problem of photography. Portraiture as a basic, human way of perceiving the world, of perceiving others. Students may choose to photograph family, strangers on the street, or set up formal portraits. The technical and conceptual skills that are needed to make a successful picture. Camera use, lighting, composition, personal vision, and point of view are discussed. Work may be made in black and white or color using analog or digital cameras.
